Welcome to Robert Murray's Magical Murals - UK Mural painter of cartoon characters...

Artistic CV Robert Murray

First mural completed aged 14 at school - Chinese motif on an old locker. I was amazed when I went back in my early 20’s to still see it in the art room.

Studied Art and design at GCSE and A’ level when I really honed my watercolour skills and the logic of perspective. It was during an A’ level art class that I decided I could have a future bringing dreams to life with my art.

Studied Building Surveying at Brighton University and then accepted a place at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida in 1991.

Completed first official mural at University when a friend asked me if I could paint his name on the wall but make it look like it was exploding. The landlady also exploded when she discovered it was actually painted on the wall!

Painted numerous ‘adult’ themes for friends and clients over the years, including a picture of a naked Chinese man in a kimono as well as abstract art in bathrooms and bedrooms.

Began stencilling when I bought my first flat, but it was only when my wife Lara was pregnant with our son that I decided to make his nursery special and set about drawing hundred acre wood. After three hours I had drawn every character on every wall so decided it was time to start painting.

Only then did I decide that I wanted to specialise in children’s rooms and nurseries, and overnight “Magical Murals” was born.

Since 1998 I have taken this specialist idea across Southern England and created numerous murals featuring cartoon characters, nursery rhymes, the alphabet and many kids TV programmes and films.

With a fine eye for detail and an ability to satisfy even the fussiest of mum, combined with a real care for children and their world and ideals have I managed to maintain my passion for painting smiles on children’s faces.

I truly believe that kids ARE that special.

A star in the making and the future of Magical Murals!

My son Jake.
